MARGARET "PEGGY" LOUISE JENKINS
April 1, 1937 ~ May 6, 2009

Peggy Jenkins passed away on May 6, 2009 in Vancouver, WA after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born on April 1, 1937 in Portland, OR to her beloved mother, Margaret Chandler. Her family moved to Vancouver, where she graduated from Evergreen High School in 1955.
Peggy married Bruce L. Jenkins shortly after on July 15, 1955. Over the coming years, they had three children. The couple had been married almost 20 years when Bruce died in a tragic heavy equipment accident on December 31, 1974.
Peggy worked at the Airport Way Costco for 15 years, and loved both the job and the people she worked with. It was there she met Larry (Sam) Howard, and they married on May 11, 1991. He passed away four years later on June 5, 1995 due to a congenital kidney disease. Later, Peggy resumed the Jenkins name.
Peggy loved to bowl, swim, and go boating, camping, traveling in her motor home, and riding on motorcycles. She had been on trips to Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Hong Kong, China (including the Great Wall), Spain, Portugal, France, England, Scotland, and Ireland, and has a souvenir rock from each.
Peggy loved baking for others. She was always helping with food and clothing donations to the homeless shelters. She also had a love for animals, and was generous to the Humane Society. As a final act of generosity, Peggy gave the gift of sight through organ donation.
She loved the presence of friends and family, and enjoyed a standing monthly lunch date with her Evergreen friends for about 29 years.
Peggy is survived by the following, all of Vancouver, WA: Her three children, Margaret (Micki) E. Schueller, Bruce W. Jenkins, and Donald L. Jenkins; their spouses, Michael Schueller, Vivian Jenkins, and Daniel Crane; grandsons, Michael and Matthew Schueller; best brother ever, who always took care of her, Harold W. Powell; nephew and niece Chuck and Angie; three grandsons from her late husband, Sam Howard: Dantae, Kelan, and James Ochoa; and their mother Teresa Aske. She is also survived by a specially acquired daughter, Dorothy Shepard, and foster son, Warren Eno. Many friends will miss her.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E 12th St, Vancouver.
In lieu of flowers, Peggy requests donations may be made to the Humane Society for SW WA at 2121 St Francis Lane, Vancouver, WA 98660 to help animals in need. Those unable to attend will be able to enjoy photos and post notes about Peggy's life at www.mem.com.
